I have two separate issues with collection numbers, but both involve box sets.

I like to see collection numbers ascending by sort title within a box set. I know that some like to only number the main box set, but I have a different practice.

Is there a way to select either a single box set or all box sets and have the numbers within them re-shuffled to match the sort title sequence?

The other issue I have has to do with new profiles popping up via alternate IDs and getting inserted into existing box sets, and by so doing, ending up with a collection number that is way off from all the other discs in the box set. I can't think of any way to fix this without disturbing all the other nearby collection numbers via a re-sequencing.

This matters to me because I sometimes like to sort on collection number as opposed to purchase date. The purchase date could reflect a way-out amazon pre-order as opposed to the collection number which is generated and assigned when the disc actually arrives.

I can imagine a benefit for a function that would "create slack" around a specific number to which you wanted to add a profile ...

I don't know of a way to do this, except manually. What you are actually tracking is the order date not the purchase date. I used to do that, but changed my process so that I use the "purchase date" field for "receipt date" instead.

Exactly. I'm trying to make my info in profiler match my amazon order history. I also include my amazon order number in the comments section for quick lookup ...

I number the same way hal does...meaning I add it to my collection and assign the number once I have it in hand.  For Box Sets, I do not number the parent and assign numbers to the children based on where that title sits in that set.  As an example, The Lord of the Rings Box set is numbered like this:

Parent: The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy: Extended Edition - No Number
Child: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring: Extended Edition - 311
Child: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: Extended Edition - 312
Child: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King: Extended Edition - 313

There is no easy way to automatically number them that way.  It has to be done manually.

As to the second issue, assuming you want to keep the new alternate ID profile, wouldn't you just delete the profile it is replacing and use that collection number?

strange, my child profiles are all numbered exactly according to Sort Title. I use "Reassign all Collection Numbers" - "Order by: Purchase Date" which is of course the same on all childs.

e.g. Sort Titles      #
Herr der Ringe 00
Herr der Ringe 01  837
Herr der Ringe 02  838
Herr der Ringe 03  839

That's what I'm doing now. Sure is tedious.
