I’m not quite sure how to respond to such  mean spirited comments but I’ll try.

I own a lot of DVDs. I do not smoke, drink, gamble, or do drugs - movies are my entertainment. I also watch minimal television – there are many days it does not even get turned on unless I want to watch DVDs. I am not married or have a child which also allows me to “waste” my money the way I want to. Contest? No – my DVDs are a hobby.

As far as actually viewing every movie, you are correct; I haven’t seen every movie in my collection. So what? The main reason I haven’t watched everything is my mother and a few friends decided to give or sell me their movies. Since this was over 500 DVDs my list of movies I haven’t seen has grown immensely. I hope to see every one, but if not, I have the room and I get a kick out of being my own video store.

As far as your comments regarding getting a @#* life – I have one thank you. I am a critical care registered nurse who has worked three 12 hour shifts for more than a decade; this has allowed me to have four days off every week. Of this time I donate one day a week to the local SPCA. I also donate time to the local VA Hospital and several nursing homes. I also bought a historic house in my neighborhood that had fallen into disrepair – I’ve done all the remodeling myself and presently live there. I am also finishing up my master’s degrees this year. I could go on but I think you get my point.

DVDP is a great place to keep track of and organize my movies. IMHO forums should be used to share the enjoyment of movies; a resource for those that love DVDs. I have enjoyed many forum comments, suggestions, and assistance. I enjoy teasing or joking around but your comments were neither; I wanted to let you know how insulting I found your comments to be.

Must be nice to only have to work 3 12 hour shifts per week...I work 5 12 hour shifts per week, rotating days/nights, with only 2 days off.  What's hilarious is I have numerous people telling me to get a life and to stop wasting my money..and I only own about 1050 DVD's...you own over 3 times that.  The thing is I took in the comments from other people..and I sat back one day and said...you know what they are right.  I love movies don't get me wrong, LOVE em, but I have found out their are other things in life than to spend every spare nickle on em and every spare moment on em.  I used to buy 7 - 10 DVD's per week..all brand new...costing between 200 & 300 bucks per week...I have since cut down to about 2 - 5 per month and not all brand new.  Listen to me I sound like I'm in AA or something.  I guess to some people it is an addiction...hint hint.

Are you trying to save our souls by "proselytization"? You should be aware that there are much worse sins than being addicted to dvd's

I don't see the point of owning so many dvds.

For me it's the quality of my collection is my first and foremost goal (of course some movies (considered bad today) have some memories attached) .

Buying all movies is just not worth it but own all the good ones is.

I guess this falls under the old saying  "One mans Junk is another mans Treasures"
I've learned along time ago that the more people who think I'm crazy, The better off I am.

As far as buying DVDs I agree with Kathy, I enjoy what I do, and I've earned the right to do what I enjoy.  I also have a Brother-in Law who runs a used Video/Book store and he only sells VHS so all DVDs that come in are thrown in a box and sent over my house, some I keep and some I pass on to the neighbors.

I guess to each his own, Some people need to get a life and quit worry about everyone else and enjoy life.

Oh, excuse me, only 1050 DVDs. You have it all under control. I quess the definition of an "addict" is anyone that has more DVDs than you... As you mentioned, most people would say that you are a "crazy addict "for having over a 1000 DVDs. You should quit criticizing others until you examine yourself carefully.

And some of us do care what we add to our collection. I'm at 2086 and around 75% of them are horror. Others like other genres and consider what they like to be more important than something a relative as your interpretation "Quality", included in my collection are some bad flix like 'Ankle Biters' and 'Hey Stop Stabbing Me!', very low budget but I think they are "Quality" films, or at least they posses the "Quality" I want in a film anyway.

couldn't agree more, I can watch just about anything (except Gigli) even such titles as "sorority babes in the slimeball bowl-a-rama", with a title like that, I had to see it for myself. I find my tastes in movies changes over the years, one film I absolutely hated 10 years ago is now one of my favorites, for different reasons, a lot depends on my mood on what I feel like watching, most rental stores don't carry much of a selection outside theatrical releases so I started picking them up as I find them. some no name movies such as "poolhall junkies" and "foolproof" I enjoyed and found most people never even heard of them. Just because a movie doesn't have a Bruce Willis type of actor doesn't mean the movie isn't any good, give some of the indepentant guys a chance. I am now trying to add to my foreign collection, slowly but surely. I enjoy buying movies as it is my escapism from the hectic world outside, where I can just turn up the volume and shut out the madness. To say I don't have a life, well, we can say the same thing about any hobby you may have, whether it's collecting baseball cards, or cd's, it's enjoyable, that's all, now go rain on someone else's parade, I'm gonna watch "Book of Days" tonight and probably enjoy it.

spend every spare nickle

who says anyone is spending every spare nickel?  if you were, then yes you had a problem.......besides, there are a ton of 60 hour a week jobs in which 200-300 a week hardly entails every spare penny.  since, you kinda sound like your job annoys you, perhaps you could find another one.  and what is really hilarious is that you let others convince you that something you enjoy is a waste of money............

hmm.... to those that have just reached 3000 wow... im only at 560!

what i've noticed is DVD profiler's wish-list has enabled me to take control of my dvd purchasing (as i am quite absent minded i'd forget the dvds i would plan to get and by something else! ) and the quality is getting much better....

3000 is not that much after all... when compared with others like.... DVD monthly has people with over 10,000 on their big collectors list!

anyway 'Hey Stop Stabbing Me' lol another for my wish-list :-D
