| Posted: | | | | I have Once Upon a Time in America in my collection (bought from CD Wow in 2002) with this EAN and the locality United Kingdom. As it doesn't have any distinguishing features for the UK (certificate or media company), it clearly wasn't released here.
I've searched online and can't find a definitive source for where it was released. The language tracks are English and Portuguese, with English, Portuguese, and Greek subtitles.
At this point, my guess is Portugal, so any help finding the correct locality, or even if this is a legit release, would be appreciated. |

| Posted: | | | | Looking at it, I'd guess the USA.
(The cover's in English, which rules out Portugal and Greece.)
There's no BBFC, Irish or Australian censor information, which rules out those countries. A Canadian release would have a bilingual cover. Which leaves only the States.
But I'm guessing. (It's in 4:3. From 2002. Seriously?) |

| Posted: | | | | If it's the one pictured below, then it's from Brazil, at least according to laserdisken.dk and they are usuallly reliable. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | Back on topic, I don't believe it is a USA release because of the 13 digits EAN. US Releases have a 12 digits UPC |

Yes, that's the one. Brazil would make sense because of the Portuguese audio track and subtitles. Thanks |

https://www.gs1.org/standards/id-keys/company-prefix I don't know. CD WOW (now WOW HD) is a fairly reputable company, not a fly-by-night operation, so it would surprise me if they had been selling bootlegs. | | | Last edited: by Nosferatu |

They were relatively new back then since they started in 2000 and were owned by different owners at that time. Selling low priced imported CDs is what got them in trouble and DVD was still relatively new. CD Wow to pay millions UK Recording Industry gets damages |

| Posted: | | | | The rating should match the country of release. Ratings are not unique, but that would narrow it down. Also note the spelling "colour" on the back cover. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. |

| Posted: | | | | I came across this scan which only shows Greek subtitles where as the one above lists both English and Greek so their must have been two pressings or a correction at some point. With the "colour" spelling and English language I'd normally think UK, but the EAN country code doesn't match. These releases appear to have English and Portuguese language, but it's weird that one version only had Greek subtitles. You'd think if anything it would be English only subs or English and Portuguese, but not Greek. However, it appears that WB had the rights in the UK and most of Europe for this title. Since the rights appear to be split across the world I also wouldn't expect a region ALL release, atleast legally. | | | Last edited: by rdodolak |

| Posted: | | | | This one just screams BOOTLEG. When I worked as movie buyer for a chain (years ago) I was offered a DVD of Once Upon A Time In America via some shady wholesale. It could even have been this one!
The wholesaler's sellingpoint was that this was the only available version on DVD, which was actually true. That doesn't make it any less... erm... shady. I would keep this title in a local collection only, not contribute it. |

| Posted: | | | | In my initial post, I said "even if this is a legit release", so I've always had doubts about its authenticity. As the GS1 doesn't show 584 is fixed to a country, the lack of any rating details, and no mention of a media company on the cover, I'm inclined to agree with marcelb7 and keep this in my personal database rather than contributing. As I have two different Blu-ray releases of OUATIA, I'll probably just give this to a charity shop and solve the problem once and for all! |
