| Posted: | | | | Hello all
A user is currently removing BY's that are not in the BY thread. Personally I think this is a ridiculous practice...unless you're going to check if that BY is required (once it's in the db what's the point of removing it if it's required??!!).
Point in fact; currently attempting to remove birth year for a Paul Williams born in 1981.
A quick scan of IMDB (urrggh!) shows there to be over 37 Paul Williams. My local database reveals 4 different ones.
So I figured it best to start a thread an try to sort this mess out. I intend to look other places but will start with IMDB:
1940 http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0931437/
1981 http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2094242/
Locally I have another two starring in Brides of Christ and Band of Brothers which currently I have fictional BY (only just added when I noticed this balls-up!) |

| Posted: | | | | I've noticed a common trend recently for removing BY that aren't in that thread & completely agree with you. As I pointed out to one user, not everyone who contributes BY info posts on the forum so a BY could easily get missed on there. In addition when Ken purged the BY list a little while back, he removed those that only had one BY for a name even though more than one exists.
There's another contribution up right now where the BY is no longer in the database list or the forum thread and the user is removing it. If they read the contribution notes, it's documented in there that more than one person with that name is in the database.*
Edit:*I see you also found this one and voted on it. | | | Last edited: by Ardos |

If he doesn't check the BY check box, it is removed and he will get 'no' votes. If he check the BY check box, he will need to document the BY again for the evaluators. Sometimes, the documentation previously given, isn't enough per today's standards. Either way, he lose. | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity | | | Last edited: by reybr |

If that's the case then either contribute with the new documentation or withdraw the contribution! Either way removing it is wrong. |

| Posted: | | | | If a birthyear is required and they are removing it then surely it's against the rules. Not in the BY thread is not documenting the change. |

For the record: that's not the case with the proposed removals I have seen. These are for birth years that HAVE been accepted by Invelos (so no checkbox appears), but the contributor only removes them because they're not listed in the BY-thread. An example of this I saw yesterday was Tom Wilson (1959) - no, that birth year is somehow not listed in the pinned BY-thread, but it is (highly) necessary and well-documented, and has been in Invelos' list of accepted birth years for a very long time. See this old thread, for instance. |

| Posted: | | | | I'd like to point out that the user who was removing all the BYs is continuing to do so.
I have had a PM conversation regarding this matter but it is still happening.
Please could everyone be a little more careful with their voting. Removing a BY just because it's not in the BY thread is NOT a good enough reason if that BY is actually needed. What's the point of removing something once it's in the db if it IS actually required?! |

| Posted: | | | | While I haven't sent him a PM, I have pointed it out several times in my notes & also why when he copied the previous notes it was declined.
I just hope that they are declined despite often having a majority of Yes votes. |

| Posted: | | | | Hi, my contributions removing BY's of Tim Wilson and Paul Williams have been withdrawn by me. So yes I do read the votes and yes I do learn form them.
But:
Roger Frost in the Bourne Identity (5050582597301) I cannot find any documentation of his BY in the contribution notes or in the forum.
Jonh Davis in the Firm (5014437803337) Again I cannot find any documentation of his BY in the contribution notes or in the forum.
David Schneider in 28 Days Later (5039036012348) After leaving his BY, it got immediately declined by the screeners even when I quoted Pantheon's contribution notes of the same profile adding the BY.
That's how it stands as of now.
So if anyone can help or provide me with documentation or a link which provides the necessary info, I am happy to change my contributions. |

Hi, Well the notes I have seen and some I have made have said that you sould not remove BY's just beacuse they are not in the BY thread. That is a far from exhaustive list and the BY check box is a fairly recent addition. If you want to change existing data then your notes should give the reason why the data is wrong. So as a minimum it should say I have researched this and can find only one John X so a Birthyear is not required etc. If there is more than one then the rules require a BY. It's not for the no voters to provide the links. As it happens all of the ones you have listed here definitely require a BY and it's easier to establish that than search these forums. If on the other hand you think the BY is wrong then change it to the correct birth year wth supporting notes. | | | Last edited: by Graveworm |

Sorry to be such a pest about his birth year, but as you can see from the previous documentation, his birth year is valid. (The requirements for documentation weren't so strict back then). Todays documentation requirements is that you have to specify that you are adding a birth year to separate the actor from another person and state examples of movies for both person.
I suggest something like this for David Schneider:
Submitted birth year for David Schneider (1963), actor of 28 Days Later and Scoop to separate him from the actor by the same name from the movie Raising Arizona (no birth year known)
Documentation for David Schneider 1963: http://daveschneider.co.uk/ http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0773768/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Schneider_(actor)
