| Posted: | | | | Maybe it's early in the morning, but here's a question...
There are contributions for Dark Angel season sets right now, and I'm about to vote no because the person is changing the title to match what's on the cover. I think that's wrong.
The contribution rules state to take the title from the credits. And the title is "Dark Angel." Not "James Cameron's Dark Angel."
At least that's what I think. So I thought I would throw this out to the sane and insane people here before I cast my vote and get screamed at. |

| Posted: | | | | Well, the rules do have an exception for box sets: Quote: "The title for a Box Set should be the title listed on the Front Cover; for example Alien Quadrilogy. " So if that's what it says on the front cover then it should probably be what you go with. | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams |

So if that's what it says on the front cover then it should probably be what you go with. Good call. I was about to answer go with the credits but I completely forgot about the box set exception. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | I don't have Dark Angel, but it seems to me that the box set title rule is designed to apply in the case where the set contains multiple titles in it. Since these are season sets for a television show, I do not believe the box set title rule applies.
The Alien Quadrilogy doesn't contain Alien Quadrilogy Disc 1, Alien Quadrilogy Disc 2, etc. It contains Alien, Aliens, etc. | | | Last edited: by nolesrule |

| Posted: | | | | And from the TV Series rules... Quote: The title for a Box Set should be the title listed on the Front Cover; for example The Andy Griffith Show. Season indicators, if listed on the cover, should be entered as part of the title, not the description. e.g. Angel: The Complete First Season. So it is right there in the TV Series rules too. | | | Pete |

The Online CANNOT be ALL things to ALL users, it is just simply impossible. As Vega noted if you want to depart from the Rules locally that's fine and locally is the place to do it.

| Posted: | | | | Oh, it's been locked, don't you worry about that. Just like all the others (Animal House, etc). It's just hard to vote on something when you don't believe that contribution is correct because the rules don't follow logic (as far as I'm concerned). | | | Last edited: by Kevin |

| Posted: | | | | I have seen several TV series where the series title doesn't match the DVD cover. In those I have seen where they used the DVD cover for the title field and the actual credits title in the Original Title field. I see no reason why this couldn't be applied to Dark Angel. | | | Are you local? This is a local shop the strangers you would bring would not understand us, our customs, our local ways. |

It's just hard to vote on something when you don't believe that contribution is correct because the rules don't follow logic (as far as I'm concerned). It's not hard to vote on something that follows a rule that you don't agree with -- DON'T VOTE. We're not supposed to vote no on something that follows the rules -- Disagreement with a rule is no justification for voting against something that is within that rule. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? | Posted: | | | | And yet there are things constantly being voted yes on that aren't even in the rules, but because they've been talked about for so long (and loud) that people think it's in the rules.
In the past few weeks I've gotten shouted down by people who contribute things that I can't find anywhere in the posted rules, yet they believe they are right and I'm an ignorant fool. And what's worse, their submissions are approved.
Once again, I'm getting that old feeling... |

| Posted: | | | | Kevin,
I don't doubt that you're right about people remembering "rules" that either don't exist or say what those people believe the rules say. But making a statement about how "the rules don't follow logic (as far as I'm concerned)" sounds a little like the boy who cried wolf. Either you follow the rules or you don't - irrespective of you opinion of the rules. And if you're shouted down for voting against a contribution that you feel either against the rules (or you can't find anywhere in the posted rules), so what? Vote based on what you believe and don't worry what the others think. As long as you don't violate the rules yourself, you're not the ignorant fool -- they are. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. | Posted: | | | | Actually my statement about 'logical rules' just means that I personally don't think they are correct, or follow any recognized brand of logical presentation using the scientific method ( ) but I vote the rules no matter what I think. If I personally think most of these rules are stupid, nonsensical, and too complicated - but I vote in accordance to those rules - then there's no harm, no foul. Heck, I worked for over 15 years for a company whose management wasn't on the intellectual level of a single-celled organism. I went to work, did what they said, collected my paycheck, and all the while I berated them mentally. In fact, every day I left work shaking my head and wondering how their ancestors ever crawled out of the primordial ooze. So I will follow the rules, no matter what I think about them. And when rules change, I will follow those. And I'll continue to make comments/suggestions to make the rules better and easier to understand. |

| Posted: | | | | What should the title be for 'To Catch a Thief'/'Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief' (EAN 5014437825636)? The cover says the latter, as does the film itself (screenshot here). The IMDb has the title as 'To Catch a Thief' so should it be 'Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief' with the original title as 'To Catch a Thief'? The same applies to 'The Birds' (EAN 025192027529). |

If the cover and the film say 'Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief', then that is the title in profiler.
